Sure. I haven't been back here in a while, so sorry it took so long...
>I really think you're inspiring. I would love to meet you. >Was there a lot of pressure on you when you first started >out doing snl and movies?
I'll tell you what: going on stage and performing for the first time was incredibly difficult for me, and I don't think I could have done it without some alcohol involved.
Once I started getting laughs locally, I really didn't feel any pressure, though. I thought my brand of sarcasm would go over well with all the gen X neo slackers out there. Like anything else, it took some work to get the ball rolling, but once I started to succeed, I was actually fairly confident.
>What do you think helped you out (becoming a good and known >actor/comedian) more the TV shows or the movies?
SNL was great for the exposure, and that really put me in the public eye. After that, it's really a matter of choosing the right movies. I don't mean to say that Tommy Boy and Black Sheep are great movies, because they obviously aren't, but I felt they were reasonable places to showcase the fact that I'm not a raving loon; that I can probably play a straight role as well. Now that JSS is doing well, I actually hope to expand into more serious roles. I don't have any ideas about being Harrison Ford, or even Jim Carrey, but I'm looking at ensemble pieces. I'd love it if I could moonlight as a Steve Buscimi...
I guess that probably didn't answer your question. For becoming good: standup and drama at college. For becoming known: definitely SNL, and not taking Rob Schnieder roles in movies. (I like Rob, but Judge Dredd? That was nearly unforgivable.)
Be well,
DS
