The U.S. is just the moderator/mediator/referee in this whole fiasco. We haven't taken out the thumbscrews or made any threats, yet. All we have done is give suggestions and expressed our opinions--which have been ignored or rejected.
Why does the banjo strumming assbag who wrote the article consider it a slap in the face for the United States? If the two sides ignore us, they can pound out their own peace settlement. No skin off my back. And to hell with the rest of the world if they, like mendo's friend at the Boston Globe, see this somehow as a U.S. failure.
