The Newbie Humbly Posts points to consider:
1. If Deckard really is a replicant, than he should in theory be at least as strong as the Nexus 6 replicants. What happens? Leon, Zhora, Pris and Roy ALL get the drop on him; the only reason he survives at all is through the intervention of others (the girls in the strip club walking in, Rachael) or through the fact he is packing heat. One might argue that he was an earlier model, but somehow I doubt that the LAPD would want a 'skin job' with neurotic and alcholic tendencies killing for them-- -- there's an LA joke in here, I know. . .
2. The moral of Blade Runner -- at least as I see it -- is that mankind (represented by Deckard) is humbled by realization that his creation (Batty) is not only as capable of reasoning as he is, but of empathy, which is essentially "human-ness". Taken as it is, Deckard is spared by Batty because his opponent has grasped that despite their differences, their desire to live and their ability to feel unite them. THAT is what makes the ending of Blade Runner so sad and yet oddly uplifting. Taken the other way, one replicant spares another and that's basically it. Deckard's lifespan will terminate soon anyway, and an unsettling yet brilliant moral lesson goes down the crapper.
3. The unicorn MIGHT refer to Deckard's dream (nice one, Ridley!) but it might also refer to Rachael -- see the Blade Runner FAQ.
4. The replicants are vibrant, fascinating characters. Deckard is a smidge dull.
5. I can't think of anything else to say.
