I taught high school English for 3 years in a private school. If a student was disciplined there, generally speaking, his parents backed up the teacher and/or administration. There were very few exceptions. Therefore, the students were generally quite well behaved.
I have heard public school teachers complain about parents who criticize the teachers (some of whom do deserve it, I know) whenever their little monsters need to be disciplined. And I'm talking detention, not beatings.
And this pop psychobabble - give me a break. Your mom's going to have her hands full with this one. Maybe she should send a letter home to child's mom saying that she really appreciates the mother's interest in her child's education, and having taken several ed psych courses herself (I'm sure your mom must have had to), she is familiar with most child psychology theories, but isn't Dr. Ross Green a character on ER?
