I love Mr Cranky's movie reviews, but I had not looked at them in a very long time. The recent flood of apparent crap in the theatres and onto video made me want to revisit for a giggle or two. That is when I noticed the forums and my very first thought was the subject line above.
First of all: It's all just words, I dont care what was posted or by who. Some choice words to offend by:
Bitch, Nigger, Whore, Wetback, Chink, Gook, Slant Eye, Slut, Fag, Faggot, Queer, Cock Sucker, Jew, WOP, Kyke, Greaseball, Honkey, Porch Monkey, Sandnigger, Camel Jockey, Chauvanist, Dyke, Rugmucher, Corn Holer, Bastard, White Trash, Redneck, Spic, Mick.......
Need I go on? Many of those words could be applied to me and I have been addressed with them many times, especially since the field I work in is still very "gender insensitive" and predominantly male. Have I ever gotten mad at that, not since I was 10 years old and ran home crying because someone called me a "gook bitch".
Mom was very good at words.....she had heard them most of her life already:

Second of all: Lighten up: it's the Internet. People say and do things for attention that they would never think, say, or do otherwise. It's Net Balls and it attacks both sexes ;). Nobody is going to have their eyes burned out or get and instant heart attack from seeing curse words or slurs being belted out on the screen, and if you are truly that sensitive you probably should go back to that cave you have been in your whole life because the internet is just a very small part of the many dangers to your woefully underdeveloped and underprotective self preservation skills.
Third of all: Stop posturing and posing like great philosophers and thinkers. You are just a bunch of bored bastards hacking out your corrections and definitions that can all be searched, copied, and pasted from the net in about two minutes flat. Say what you mean and mean what you say instead of trying to make sense out of documentation that doesnt suit you at all. Want to stop garbage and potty talk on the net? Everybody just try being yourself one day and see how it works out to be honest with everyone (including yourselves) once in awhile.
Now I know whats going to be said here:

Agreed, those words do spread hate, but only because human nature has hate lurking in it at some base level in the first place. You can't make mold in a sterile petri dish, but if a germ is already present boy can you make a mess. You can't stop a part of human nature that is built in and you can't control every condition that might cause it to taint the whole thing.

Your board? I see....I suppose you actually helped Mr Gore "invent the internet" too? As far as self defense against spam: Do you see one movie related response on your screen without scrolling to the bottom? I didn't think so...just a bunch of cut and paste lessons onb the usage of the word "is".......(LOL).
Just my thinks, and they are mine. You aren't going to change them with the hottest most witty flame in the world. You'll just prove my point about being bored.
(PS-spelling and grammar.....thats funny. I already know mine is poor and I wont pretend. I'm an intelligent , well spoken, college educated, tri lingual young woman whos native language IS NOT english. Not to mention that I am also a pro'grammer' and that alone should tell you something about what the code world does to written skills. I have yet to meet a pro'grammer' who was a pro-"grammar" as well (HAHA).)
