09/18/1999: TV(commercial) review - BRAVEHEART

Posted By: Morrison_Hotel

Braveheart is a highly entertaining overblown historical epic which contains lots of violence, a bit of sex, and various other things (many of which were unfortunately censored by NBC for the re-airing I recently caught). Mel Gibson does well by playing Wallace as a regular guy who gets pushed by the English until he decides to take up arms against him. The guy who played Longshanks was an excellent villian if a bit one-dimensional, and the rest of the acting was also solid. The look of the film was absolutely incredible (again, was spoiled a bit by the pan-and-scan of the TV version), and the various elements worked together to make an incredibly entertaining epic. My only complaints were that is was a little too long and that parts of it were kinda silly (the dream sequences were a bit overdone). Overall, Braveheart is a really worthwhile film which is probably best seen on DVD(if it's on DVD) with a really good home entertainment system.

Score - 9/10
