is "divided we fall". it was nominated for best foreign flick last year but lost deservedly to "crouching tiger". still, if it weren;t for the director's abuse of a certain cinematography trick near the end this would have been THE best movie released this year, even better than memento and AI. as it is, i still give it a 7 out of 10 (9th best of 2001 so far) and it might be at an arthouse near you. check it out if you haven't yet.
as for corelli's mandolin, i give it a 4 out of 10. it must be lovely to know that when you're away battling the Nazi empire, the enemy is in your village fucking your girlfriend. apparently the Italians were not so bad during WW2. They only terrorized people because the Germans made them. Still, Penelope Cruz is the real deal. She would have good chemistry with anyone, I believe. And I'm by no means a penelope cruz megafan, like some people i know. she's like isabella from the first season of the sopranos, except her body is like that of a teenage boy.
