Only if the author has plans to make it into a vastly successful movie.

Otherwise, what you're describing is verse, not poetry - prose, not literature.

Now tonight I'm starting another Reading Fiction class with "Little Big Man." It was turned into a moderately successful movie (with most of the book missing), but I do think it qualifies as literature and will be around for at least another hundred years.
