I don't know a thing about him other than he's from Down Under as well.
Of course, I don't know that every hot young author who writes either in angst-ridden minimalist prose and gets called "searing" or throws in a bit of style and is immediately labelled "luminous" qualifies as literature.
You see, I'm not only a snob, but one with dated tastes to boot. I do know, however, that critics, in order to maintain their pathetic reputations, must always be on the lookout for the Next Big Thing, over which they swarm and rhapsodise - for a season, after which it's Old News. None of that has much to do with what will eventually be judged as literature.
But if you have parents in academe, you should know that. Or just as likely, I'm talking through my straw skimmer.
