Actually, new skin is generated each time an animal reproduces, grows, or heals from a wound. There is a limitless supply, therefore it cannot be wasted.
Like most people, Casablanca and It's a Wonderful Life are probably the only black-and-white movies you've ever seen (Schindler's List doesn't count). Come to think of it, you probably chose the colorized versions. Mr. Cranky has a point about Casablanca, but it's understandable that you get torqued when somebody bursts your bubble about this overhyped mediocrity when it's one of the only two movies from before 1980 you're familiar with.
If you want to see a good Bogart movie, rent Key Largo, In a Lonely Place, or The Big Sleep. Get them in black-and- white. It will be scary at first, but if you keep watching, maybe you'll develop a taste for it.
