01/12/06: Ever see a fake police car with siren and a guy with a machine gun?

In brazil, I was returning from the IM interview and on the main highway when a police car had it's siren on and was trying to get cars out of the way. The cars weren't moving, which I thought was kind of neglectful, but then as it approached I noticed the drivers were dressed in regular T-Shirts and one of therm had a large machine gun pointing out the window.

Something didn't sit right with me as all the cops I'd seen in Brazil had been in full uniform wearing bulletproof vests. Hence, the need for a machine gun as large as THAT, would probably require the vests.

I asked my wife to ask the cab driver what the deal was, and he responded by saying that they didn't want to wait for traffic. I suppose it was a scam of sorts, but my wife said the gun was real. The car sewemed a little off too. I think they painted a car and threw a siren on it, the ghun was gfor effect, could or could not have been loaded.

The absurd thing was that other cars were in no hurry to let them through. They were either wise to the scam, didn't care, or maybe didn't see the gun right away.
