Allright, I've finally figured you out. You don't write these columns because of a genuine interest in film, you write them to anger people. That's pathetic. At first I thought you might actually be a critic, but your really just an ignorant computer-user. First of all, you wrote a question, "If Martin Scorsese is such a good director, than why does he always do mafia films?" Just on the basis of this question alone, I can conclude that you have no buisness reviewing films. DIRECTORS DO NOT WRITE THE SCRIPT, THAT'S WHAT WRITERS DO! Martin Scorsese is a directing genius because of his technique, pacing, camera angles, and his unrivaled ability to take magnificent shots of inner-city life. Now just for the record, even though he does choose to direct crime-drama quite often, he's only actually made three mafia movies. "Mean Streets," "Goodfellas," and "Casino." They all have similarities, but they also have differences. First of all both "Goodfellas and "Casino," are based on true stories, so it's not as if Scorsese copied the same film over again. Secondly, crime drama films rule! They quite often have a perfect blend of sex, violence, intrigue, and suspense. In addition, Scorsese has made comedies, romances, thrillers, and even a biblical film. So please don't question his range, crime drama is just his preference. Now I admit that over all, "Casino," could have been shortened, but it is still a very powerful film. The insight on Las Vegas, gives the audience a bold look at the gambling industry. It attacks issues regarding power, wealth, manipulation, drug use, greed, and betrayl. Robert de Niro gives an incredible performance as Sam Rostein, a gambling god with mafia roots, who takes charge of "The Tangiers," casino. Joe Pesci shines as the psychotic mobster, Nicki Santuro. Sharon Stone is suprisingly effective as Ginger Rostein, the sexy, charming, but often obnoxious and self-destructive wife of Sam. The plot of the film involves Sam Rostein being asked to take charge of a major casino in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, mobster Nikki Santuro watches his back, usually with the use of excessive force. Sam meets Ginger in the casino. They fall in love, and get married. However, the combination of Nikki's criminal reputation and Ginger's unacceptable behavior, lead to the fall of Sam's rise to the top. The chemistry between De Niro and Pesci is magic, just as it was in "Raging Bull," and "Goodfellas," which are also both Scorsese films. Excellent performances all around, classic directing, and an intruiging script, make this film unforgettable. Once again, with "Casino," Scorsese hits the jackpot.
