05/30/1999: I forgot all about the 'Native' Americans!

Sorry, I got so into my last rant I forgot to go back to my standard rant I give when people are complaining about the killing of indigenous peoples. I'm so tired from the last one I will make it short.

We are all savages. Cultures that have an advantage destroy and replace those weaker than them. This has always happened, and will always happen, and if you can't appreciate the aesthetics of it then you can at least accept it. The Americas were inhabited for perhaps 100,000 years before the descendents of the 'native' Americans invaded it a mere 12,000 years ago. They totally exterminated the previous inhabitants because the newcomers were at the late Mesolithic level of technology and the previous inhabitants were still Paleolithic. Their culture was probably no more or less 'barbaric' than the original inhabitants, but they did have superior technology. Later, when some of them were up to the Neolithic level some humans who had developed Iron Age tech showed up, and nearly exterminated them. These Europeans were no more or less 'barbaric' - well, maybe slightly less, because they weren't as effective at exterminating the more primitive people and some still remain. Or maybe they just need more time. This is the natural order of things, and it is still going on as industrialized nations colonize and take over third-world nations, although it is a somewhat less violent process as we are better at assimilating primitive cultures into our own using psychological and economic warfare. I think that this is happening to the United States now, as the more efficient and well-suited culture of the Japanese assimilates ours.
