I won't waste much space since this has turned into a different discussion, but part of my exasperation comes from the years I spend bartending in downtown Chicago. The restaurant I worked at had a menu from which the employees could order for free. The hordes of "homeless" that hung around the place asking for money to get a sandwich turned up their noses when I brought them food, hot off of the grill and packaged in a nice clean styrofoam to-go box, that other people were paying good money for. They didn't want the food, they wanted the money. It soured me on bothering to help ANY of them.
