Quentin Tarantino may have only made three and 1/4 films, but the ones he has made have COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY SHAPED ONE OUT OF EVERY FOURTH MOVIE MADE IN HOLLYWOOD AND ONE OUT OF EVERY THIRD INDEPENDANT FILM OF THE PAST EIGHT YEARS! Whether you like him or not, his influence cannot be doubted.
Steven Soderbergh is extremely skilled, showing an ability to make small, inaccesible "art" movies (Full Frontal was great) and to transfer those abilities to more "mainstream" films (Ocean's Eleven is what an "escapist" movie SHOULD be).
David Fincher is somewhat one-note: I don't know what would happen is somebody turned the lights on in one of his movies, but his visual creativity is almost unparralleled among studio directors.
Why hasn't anyone mentioned Ridley Scott? He's as much a low-grade hack as his brother, but he somehow has a whiff of legitimacy that Tony has never gotten. He's been nominated for OSCARS! for god's sake!
