Today "Wedding" passed "Ghost" to become the highest grossing pure romance ever, which will probably be its last milestone in its incredible run which has seen it become:
* the highest grossing independent movie of all time (beating "Blair Witch Project")
* the highest grossing film that never hit number 1 (beating "Dances with Wolves")
* the second slowest movie ever to reach $200M (right after "Back to the Future," which benefitted from much lower ticket prices, of course) -- it took "MBFGW" 215 days to "BTF's" 231
* the highest grossing romantic comedy ever (beating "What Women Want")
* and now, at $217M, it becomes the highest grossing pure romance ever
Now there's several more movies that "MBFGW" could pass on the all-time list, with "Mrs. Doubtfire" right around the corner, but there's basically nothing left for it to accomplish otherwise. It's done it all. I salute you, Nia Vardalos. You are the Goddess. You took a $5M budget and turned it into a phenomenon like none any of us has ever seen before. I bow down to your superior knowledge.
Now let's just hope your "Big Fat Greek Life" does't suck Shetland Pony wang.
