It's a constant that is equal to the circumfrence of a circle divided by its diameter. The exact value turns out to be an infinite, nonrepeating decimal.....and though there are certainly other examples of infinite, nonrepeating decimals, we care about pi because it relates to meaurement of circles and anythin containing a circle (like a cylinder's volume). 4.148364903650936750235 etc is meaningless.
