The wife and I saw this flick Sunday and I must say I have never seen a nastier piece of work leave me so unmoved. The CGIDroids certainly pitched in enthusiastically and I would DEFINITELY like to find the whereabouts of the director's alkaloid connection for he is obviously Da Man in recreational pharmaceuticals (did I get that right?). But I had little connection with any of the characters, you saw FBI Vince's Horrid Secret From The Past coming from a mile off and, to a wussy little ponce like myself, there were those rings in the back of Whacko Vince that helped me look at a fair amount of this movie over the top of my glasses - and believe me when I tell you that I am HORRIBLY near-sighted.
And if this movie truly purports to tell you what's going on in people's minds, then I am WAY less imaginative than I think I am (unless, of course, all of this is just bubbling below our consciousness and, in reality, I *am* the technicolor nut case that I believe myself to be). The world going along in MY mind is considerably less baroque than any of the mindscapes offered here (tho, in fairness to Jen's, she did use some external stimuli to set up her internal stage).
On the plus side, it was kinda refreshing not to have Jennifer and FBI Vince exchanging saliva and phone numbers at the end of the flick - unless they WERE expecting a Cell II in which to develop THAT subplot.
But finally (and here's the main SPOILER!!!!! SPOILER!!! WHOOP!WHOOP!WHOOP!), I have to say that I was disappointed in Jennifer's putting Little Carl in for the Final Big Dip in order to resolve the situation. What? A few hours in a guy's mind and she's ready to completely write him off? I can understand not wanting to share brainspace with Ring Boy, but she couldn't see any way to salvage the situation other than taking up Not-So-Nutsy Carl's solution to hiding his injured bird from his dad - "I had to kill it in order to save it"? Mebbe there ARE people who should be taken out of the gene pool, but I didn't think that that would have been her answer so soon in the situation.
But, then again, maybe I'm wrong.
