Sorry to do this so late in the piece, but I'm just finding my way round the many and varied threads here at Mr Cranky's. (Kazy, you'll just have to make allowance for us Newbie Losers.)
I hadn't realised how much history some of you have shared. It makes a difference, doesn't it?
On drug testing: Would you make a distinction between drugs intended to (a) kill nasty bugs that hop aboard us; (b) try to correct genetic mistakes; (c) alter behaviour (which may relate to either (a) or (b))?
Without under-rating the importance of scientific method, doesn't it rather depend on the person doing it? And doesn't someone still end up, outside the laboratory, having to make decisions without complete knowledge and in the face of real world pressures and emotions?
Saint-Exupery: "As to the future - your task is not to foresee, but to enable it." History is great stuff, but it always points to one end.
I was sorry none of you picked up on !pang's point ("Scary"). A discussion on forgiveness and redemption might not have been out of order here.
Must get to more movies.
