04/13/02: I actually saw this movie today....review (spoilers)

IT STANK LIKE UNWASHED GYM SOCKS!!

Actually, "Changing Lanes" was okay. Honestly, I no intention of seeing this flim, I was gonna finally see BLADE 2, but missed it by 12 minutes. So...the back-up plan was this movie.

"Changing Lanes" almost plays like black and white yuppie versions of "Falling Down" running simualtaneaously (sp?). Jackson does well, and even Affleck was decent. Amanda Peet's role was thankfully small. I don't like her, maybe because it looks like they just cram a spoonful of peanut butter in her mouth and then get some one to dub over her lines. Horse mouth beyotch. Having already bared her tits in THE WHOLE NINE YARDS, there's no reason for her to appear in movies anymore. John Hurt also appears in a small part. He should do that more often. Take smaller and smaller parts until he retires.

The movie works when the characters get vicious. I dug that, but wondered how the movie would end. Surely not in a happy resolution to both character's dilemmas? After all, the movie indicates that both men are assholes to some extent. Jackson pisses off two guys in a bar then assualts them. Affleck is slick lawyer slime who cheated on his wife. Do they deserve anything good? Well, it's a mainstream Hollywood movie, so you can guess how it finishes.

Personally, Mr. Cranky's rating of 2 Bombs was pretty accurate. I might have gone 3, though.

Trailers I saw: Spiderman (looks potentially sucky), The Sum of All Fears (for those craving even more Affleck and Morgan Freeman), K19 (I think, Harrison Ford as a Soviet sub captain, and Liam Niesson, too. Looks like a shitty commie version of Crimson Tide. I can't believe Ford passed up on Jack Ryan to make a movie like this.), Bad Company (Chris Rock goes secret agent! Anybody sick of secret agents, yet? I saw this already...starred Larry Fishburne and Ellen Barkin.) and the Scorpion King (feh).
