Hillary (for example) isn't trying to expand the size of the government, she's shilling for votes.
And remember, the Dems are traditionally the party of big government. They're not being hypocritical about it the way, say, Reagan was.
(I don't say Bush because I don't know if Bush has ever promised to reduce the size of government. Cut the budget, yes, but the size?)
You just hold the view that every one who proposes new laws and restrictions does so out of a conscious desire to have power over others.
