I saw a couple of episodes of the (according to the die- hard fans) very crappy syndicated English dub during winter vacation a few years back. The local UPN affiliate was running them. Very cheesy, but oddly appealing, they ran it immediately after "Bananas in Pajamas", which should give you an immediate idea of the tone.
Basically, if you saw the totally demented Great Lost Trip Movie, "Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer", you should have a pretty clear picture of what a typical "Sailor" adventure was like. Of course, there's also the "Powerpuff Girls", who started out as an elaborite "Sailor" parody/tribute.
So, basically, "Sailor Moon" is a charmingly cheesey anime series that reminds me of "Rainbow Brite" and makes "Pokemon" look *way* too complicated in comparison. Although Tuxedo Mask was a cool character.
