I have to disagree with Miah's comments about profanity. I agree with Beast. To say that frequent obscenity shocks us into listening to the real message is an incredibly out-of-touch statement. For one thing, not too many people are shocked by it nowadays. We're all jaded. Furthermore, when practically every sentence contains "fuck" or "shit" it's simply annoying. If you don't notice it, then it obviously isn't emphasizing anything. If you do notice it, then you're just thinking about the foul words rather than the content. I will testify from firsthand experience. I have a fairly clean mouth. But on the infrequent occasions when I choose to use a four letter word, PEOPLE LISTEN! You can see their eyebrows rise. Why? It's precisely because I don't do it often that when I do, people know I mean business. On the other hand a person who says "fuck" in every sentence is not listend to. Big deal. He says it all the time Some will argue that many people really do talk that way, so it's just realistic. That's their business and I'm not here to judge. They also defecate in real life but I don't want to see that. Why not? Because it adds no dramtic purpose, nor does dirty language. Even given that some people do talk that way, it still doesn't add anything in a movie. I'll leave anyone still unconvinced with one final question: Imagine that most (not all) of the foul words in Chasing Amy were taken out. Would anything be lost? Think about it.
