I enjoyed Chasing Amy. It was really thought provoking and stirring. And funny.
Although I was desperately afraid that they were actually going to have a three way sex scene at the end. I think this is pretty much believable that Holden would propose this, since both he and Banky are remarkably stupid about women and lesbians and he would think that this would solve things. But when he said that, I pictured that Baldwin freak with Sherilyn Fenn and someone else in Threesome (a film I didn't see because of that Baldwin) and I cringed in fear until Alyssa put his shit down.
Anyway, I do have the occaisional concern with the possible interpretation of this film as 'lesbians need dicks' or whatever (which I don't agree with, but I can see people getting that out of it.) But no one these days seems to acknowledge that bisexuality is an actuality. People can be attracted to both sexes without being traitors or exclusive to one gender. Alyssa is bisexual. That's the deal. If she was a lesbian, she would never be attracted to Holden physically. She probably would have stormed off in the rain and regretted losing a friend.
I love Silent Bob and his Showgirls reference.
The comic book setting is NOT just to be 'hip.' It's because Smith likes comic books and it's his film.
Banky's not really gay. He obviously did not want to do the stupid threesome, but he went along with it because it seemed like a do-this-or-lose-best-friend proposition and perhaps he was a bit curious.
What is Banky short for? Bankosky? Bankothan? Benry? Bankolomew?
Anyway, there's other stuff I thought of, but I've forgotten.
