Cranky's review shows his piles are acting up. This is a brave little flick that doesn't kowtow to any PC conception of what is forbiddent turf for a story.
That "subtext" with the gay black
artist who had to adopt a militant
anti-honky attitude was a great look
at how much a person has to bend
to get a job using one's talents. It
had nothing at all to do with portraying
"X-ers" as closet fags. The best part
was when the guy rather nonchalantly
encouraged race-hatred to the little
kid - man, people do that all the friggn'
time; this was a bit of cinema verite, dig?
As for turning the lesbian straight... the movie's explanation via her little sotto voce about why she "decided" to have a sexual experimentation was good enough for me to counter any accusations of frat-boy anti-lesbo propaganda.
