I wish those defeated guerillas would just get with the program and quit killing our soldiers (mind the space)!

U.S. Suffers 100th Death in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - A U.S. soldier died over the weekend after a traffic accident near Kabul, becoming the 100th American casualty since the U.S.-led military campaign began in Afghanistan two years ago.

In contrast, the American death toll in Iraq passed the 100 mark in early April - only weeks after the U.S.-led invasion was launched. A total 494 U.S. service members have died in Iraq, most in the intense guerrilla war that followed the end of regular fighting, declared May 1.

In Afghanistan, the military said the latest death came when the soldier was involved in a vehicle accident southwest of the Afghan capital Friday night and died as a result of his injuries the next morning. The soldier was not identified.

Rebels have waged frequent attacks on security forces, government officials and aid workers, particularly in the lawless south and east of the country.

The attacks have cast doubts over whether Afghanistan, which earlier this month adopted a new constitution after two decades of war and civil strife, will be stable enough to hold general elections in June as planned.

Maybe we should call it Quagmire the Lesser? By common agreement our society seems to think that soldiering is an honorable profession. Wouldn't it be nice if this administration sent out the nation's soldiers based on real national security concerns, and not in further service to a pack of lies?
