Just to start off, I agree with you that Mtv's political "coverage" has always been in pursuit of a particular political agenda, or, at least, in pursuit of the 'perceived' political agenda of its target audience. But, I would point out two things:
1. Bush, Sr., as llamasex pointed out, actually REFUSED to appear on Mtv.
2. Bob Dole appeared on Mtv a number of times during his campaign. In fact, Dole was 'interviewed' by Pauly Shore in an allegedly 'humorous' segment (personally, I kept hoping Dole would get up and whip Shore's ass). During Dole's campaign, they re-ran that segment pretty steadily.
No Republican has gotten the spotlight treatment that Clinton got from Mtv, and I don't really watch Mtv anymore, so they could've gotten much worse, but I always got the impression that the Republicans not appearing on Mtv was at least partly due to their own lack of interest.
