American fixation with cars is staggering. European system makes a heck of a lot more sense. Of course, most of Europe has trains and a decent bus system, so for the most part you don't need a car on a daily basis unless you're out in the country.

Also, all cars are required to undergo thourough inspection every 3 years. No junkers or jalopies can pass. In fact, most cars over 5 years old don't pass (there are always exceptions). Inspection made by gov't official.

Dad is to blame. Kid is only going to Blockbuster? Tough. Spoiled brat has his own car, he can drive his own car. Dad's in a living hell? Tough.

Natural selection--sometimes it works.
