Yes, Rosebud was a symbol for the very last time in Charles Foster Kane's life that he was allowed to act like a human being. It was a remembrance over his loss of innocence at such a tender age.
I frickin' love this movie. It is one of the very few I could watch over and over again. By the way, there was an excellent HBO movie about what a heartache it was to get this made.
