The Democrats are handed the 2008 Presidency on a silver platter and somehow they manage to throw up all over it by nominating either a despised woman or a coke-sniffing brother to run against the most popular older white male Republican politician in America and certainly the only one that has any chance of winning against ANY Democrat. I would say that I don't get McCain's popularity -- I mean, he seems like a pretty cool guy in general (former "SNL" host and #1 "Daily Show" guest in history!) and claims to be a "maverick" and an "independent" but he's an unabashed core conservative on most social issues (besides immigration), while most moderate Americans are liberal socially. The only thing he really has going for him (besides the military career which was meaningless for Kerry against a guy who dodged the military) is that, I will admit, he's honest to a fault. He mostly attempts to do exactly what he says he's going to do and he tells you like it is. But, hell, if America wanted honest politicians, it would elect them! We want people like Romney and Obama and Clinton that will tell us what we want to hear, whether they can deliver it or not, damn it!
Sorry, but McCain is 4 more years of Bush and 30 more years of Bush's Supreme Court after he gets done replacing 1 or 2 of the current non-conservative members with 25- year-olds just out of law school. The Democrats better hope they at least hold onto the Senate so they can filibuster his nominees to death. I hope I don't live to see election day 2008... and we're certainly heading in that direction...
