RATING: 7/10
I have mixed feelings about it. It was fresh on its way to being possibly my favorite movie of all time (maybe #2, because AMERICAN BEAUTY is hard to top) when the frog scene happened. I know it's an Exodus reference and that it's happened before in real life, but it's pretty inexcusable. Why couldn't it have been another, more believable freak occurence? To me, frogs are whimsical creatures and they just seemed out of place in this film; they aborted the emotional involvement in the story for me and, thus, ruined it.
Taken as a film without an ending, there are some truly great scenes in this film, especially Linda's confession to her lawyer and criticism of the pharmacy workers, Stanley's breakdown, and Jim and Claudia's date. However, for each time I was affected by these compelling scenes, I was given another time where I was disappointed by a lack of outcome. There are two key plot points that are never resolved and that bugs me: a) Jimmy Gator's actions towards Claudia and b) Jim and Claudia's relationship. And that thoroughly pisses me off. I'm not asking for much, P.T.: you should've cut the music video, snipped the frogs, and used those last few moments for what you do best: character development. It's what I loved HARD EIGHT and BOOGIE NIGHTS for so much.
