Yes, he did. I guess you were too busy groaning to pay attention or haven't forced yourself to watch the film is 15+ years. After Dunbar's inspirational suicide attempt, a Union general (or some higher officer) fetches his personal doctor, who apparently is a bit less amputation happy than the docs for the cannon fodder.
Not that I'm fan of this movie, while watchable once, it's another of Hollywood's masturbatory efforts to romanticize the American Indian, and as cliched as those shitty romance novels where some Native American hunk , often a half- breed, hooks up with a frontier supermodel (who usually has a historically bogus name like Brynna or Kaitlin).
Also, with that jab at the Old South, you've done all but include Cranky's other favorite topic genetile self- mutilation. You suck-up.
