"Newsies" was a foolish attempt for a musical. Although I admit that there are occasionally good musicals, this isn't one of them. The "dancing" consists of groups of people rushing one way and then another and then coming to a stop. The songs did nothing for the film, except bring it to a sudden halt several times. And if I remember rightly, Pulitzer wanted to cut the pay by one-tenth of a cent.
Wasn't that one hell of an ogre the film makers gave us for Pulitzer? To get historical, there WAS a newsboys' strike in 1899 which, unlike the one in the film, failed, and in real life Pulitzer was nearly blind and issued his orders from the deck of his yacht.
