You know, they're are quite a few people out here, like myself, who like ALL kinds of music and I'm talking about my childhood listening to Nat King Cole, Barbra Streisand, Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong, The Beatles, Beach Boys, Dion etc. through my pubescent years of TOTAL Top 40 - (The Jackson 5, Osmonds, 3 Dog Night, Sly and the Family Stone), to my rock n roll high school years - (Eagles, Steely Dan, Elton John, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Creedence Clearwater, Bonnie Raitt, Revival, Clapton, Loggins and Messina, Bob Seger, Fleetwood Mac,) through the 70's R&B and disco (Donna Summer, KC & the Sunshine Band, Earth Wind and Fire, Barry White, The O'Jays, Commodores, Ohio Players, Parliament), through the 80's techno-pop (Eurythmics, Thomas Dolby, Cindi Lauper, Simply Red) and now in the 90's, groovin on bands and singers like Dave Matthews, Counting Crows, REM, Matchbox 20, Cake, The Wallflowers, Rage Against the Machine, Sublime, Fugees, Cherry Poppin Daddies, ALL the Lilith Fair chicks and YES, even the Backstreet Boys AND Janet Jackson AND Michael Jackson AND Luther Vandross AND <GASP> Kenny G!!. I also happen to enjoy some Country music, Christian Contemporary (GO Michael W. Smith!) Hip Hop, R&B, Rap and will listen to ANYTHING that Prince (aka...the Artist) puts out.
Bottom line...I pretty much keep my ears open for all kinds of music that makes me feel like dancing or singing myself. And WHAT is the big deal if a band doesn't write their own lyrics? Many Top 40 bands never wrote their own songs, but it certainly doesn't diminish the enjoyability factor as far as I'm concerned.
So, all you musical "purists" SHADDUP already with ranking on other people's musical tastes. I'll take 10 Backstreet Boys groups ANYDAY over that whack-job self-mutilator Marilyn Manson. (I hear he's changing his image and going for a "softer" look...ooohh...I can't wait...WHAT A FREAK!)
That's just my VERY long-winded opinion, and you're all welcome to disagree. ROCK ON, BOOGIE DOWN AND GETTIN JIGGY WIT IT!! Peace.
