03/27/98: taxonomy

Posted By: LunaMoth

HB,

most of my taxonomy info (at least the names of families and so on) comes from the NIH taxonomy server at:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Taxonomy

which would be happy to tell you that mole rats are all in the family Bathyergidae, there are 6 major divisions covering at least 10 species of mole rat... naked mole rats are Heterocephalus glaber.

who knew?

(oh and there's a new web-cam at the zoo... it's hooked up to the orangutan house, but I haven't had any luck in spotting them... and the rhinos have been moved over a cage, as of last time I was at the zoo, so you probably won't see anything in the baby rhino cam either)

who knew?

Tick,

as I recall, M.T. was played by Roo. He confessed to it in the last days of the big thread.... said he'd need me around to redeem him if it got him in trouble.
