It was too gimmicky, too self-congradulatory in its depth and originality, and without any actual substance behind it. Great, he seperated an era's form from its morality. Did he create an interesting story, interesting characters, do anything emotional or real beyond an erudite intellectual level? No. I mean, the idea was interestnig, and certainly well-executed, but we got the point after about 15 minutes. Everything subsequent to it was just repetition.
