Y Tu Mama Tambien, Far For Heaven and Talk to Her get to fight over the title of the most critically acclaimed movie of the year. Frankly, I think that trio is much weaker than last year's top 3, Ghost World, Mulholland Drive and Memento. Of course, I haven't seen Talk to Her yet, so maybe I don't know what the hell I'm talking about.
Most interesting is the fact that The Hours barely makes a blip in any of these lists, yet it's going crazy among the industry people (Guilds, Golden Globes, and soon-to-be the Academy). Many critics seem to have thought it was too boring -- but the same's true of Far From Heaven if you ask me, yet it's high on everybody's list (heck, it's on the most lists). Gangs of New York is another Oscar monster that isn't exactly revered by the critics. Interestingly, Y Tu Mama Tambien and Talk to Her aren't even eligible for the Best Foreign Language Feature Oscar (their own countries screwed them over).
