One early scene had a slightly similar problem. It's the one where Paul Reiser brings Ripley her cat then gives her a load of exposition, which is real because later scenes depend on it. But later in the scene, Ripley sees the cat grow fangs, then feels an alien growing inside her... then wakes up from a nightmare.
My question is, when does the scene cease to be real and become a dream? Maybe it's a dream that starts out with her running through the real part in her memory.
