Thanks for the review; there was a weeklong series in the Chronicle recently about analyzing criticism. One critic (I think it was the paper's pop music reviewer) said that there is a difference between good music and music you like. I know just what he means - for example, I gave *** to No Doubt's "Tragic Kingdom," but I probably won't listen to it for a while. The music itself is well-played by a talented band, but if I might not want to particularly listen to it at a certain time, I won't. Similarly, if I were to review metal albums, I would not give them all negative reviews just because I don't like metal very much. I'm sure that there are good metal albums and bad ones - the good ones would get good reviews, and the bad ones wouldn't. (For the record, this sounds like a bad one.)
