09/21/07: What's wrong with you people? My high school had no race problems.

I was in Reseda High School's Class of '69. Reseda is one of the fifty two communities that make up the City of Los Angeles and is near the west end of the San Fernando Valley. We never had one incident involving race during my time in this school of over 3000 students. Both of our Black students pretty much kept to themselves.

I swear to God I am not making this up. Our Journalism teacher suggested we interview them and find out from them how they felt about being the only Black kids in a White high school. When one of our peers who was naive enough to take this assignment approached the young Black man to ask for the interview, he told her "Go away. Leave me alone. Don't bother me again."

The assignment went unfulfilled. And understandably. Black people are scary.
