This was actually a pretty good movie. The effects were great, and I would say, realistic. I actually thought I WAS REALLY THERE... in the theater, watching what COULD be real. It even had a cool "Speilbergian" scene, with a brown-haired, wide-eyed, innocent-in-every-way teenager riding a bike, off-road, to safety (spoiler). We're suckers for these moments.
Despite what some people are saying, Tia Leoni did a very good job. Sure, she's not quite like other actresses, and she's certainly a little quirky. But that's what makes her so cute. It's not bad acting, it's her style. She did a damn fine job. In fact, I would even go so far as to say she did a DANDY job.
Actually, everyone did a dandy job. It was a moving movie- not overwelmingly moving, but enough. The waves were intense. I had no idea water could move that fast.
I came out of the theater adequately satisfied. I only paid three dollars for the ticket, and it was well worth it. I give it 7 stars out of 10, which is DAMN good by my standards.
P.S. Tia Leoni is not too skinny. She just needs to cut back on her calcium intake.
