And might I say it was quite a weird one at that. Not a single good male character in the book, save Susan Harris (Julie Christie)' butler, who dies halfway through the book (not sure about the movie). He wrote Demon Seed in the mid-1970s, and he just updated it for 1997. It's well worth the read, and it brings about some probing questions (no pun intended).
