In episode 1, Senator Palpatine and Darth Sidious are the same person, and they are played by the same actor. This is also the same person and same actor who was the Emperor in Return of the Jedi.
As long as we're talking about these movies, I just want to say that the special editions suck. In the originals, George Lucas had to INVENT everything. But the first time I saw the special edition of epeisode 4, I thought, "Hey! This looks like Jurassic Park." The changes in all 3 special editions are distracting and harm the story. In the speical edition of episode 4, Greedo shoots first, which is really dumb. In the special edition of episode 5, when Luke makes his really big fall at the end, he screams. Why did they add that scream? In avoiding the temptations of the dark side, we know that he must have been calm and at peace, so why would he scream? In the speical edition of episode 6, the song in Jabba's palace and the Ewok song were both replaced with other songs. Why? I love the original versions. I hate the special editions.
