Those damned accents! "We ah sooo vely hahpy to mahke youah ahquaintahnce, mistah Jediy." in this menacing, whispery voice. It sounds like the worst of Hollywood's Chinese caricatures! Also consider their wide, budy eyes with the horizontal pupils that gave them a slitted appearance, and their style of clothing was also somewhat inspired by traditional chinese dress (those hats the leaders wore were not unlike those worn by wealthy Chinese merchants in the 18th and 19th centuries). With these in place, it's downright offensive to consider that they were all slimy, greedy, evil cowards.
