While the film "Desperado" will never win an academy award, due mostly to the fact that hollywood needs high dollar special effects to succeed, I believe it deserves some recognition. What Rodriguez has done with 7 million dollars speaks of great talent, especially when you compare it to the 50 million dollar budget of that summers big name "Waterworld". And Desperado was a better movie. Salma definitely adds a certain appeal to the male viewer, and while the action was often predictable, it was so much fun I just didn't care. Overall I think the movie was incredibly cool, and I would like to see more movies made for content than for ILM.
