EL MARIACHI was definitely the superior film. I've seen it over ten times and it's such a 'cool' film. Robert injected an hyper-kinetic sense of style and originality to his ultra low budget debut. DESPERADO was an extremely pleasurable film to watch but lacked the spontaneity that was central to it's predecessors critical success.
