Well, let's not forget that in real-life, "villans" are flawed (as are heroes). The flaws make them human, and humans commit mistakes.

Villans tend to NOT learn from their mistakes, the heroes do.

The villans fail.

If they were any GOOD at anything, they'd be running a successful business or something. Look at Dr. Evil...:)

Villans don't co-operate with anyone. It's ALL about THEM, and their needs.

They only give to others if it serves their interests, and ONLY as long as it does so.

Evil USES; it doesn't form lasting commitments, nor does it CARE.

Rarely do villans separate their wants and needs from their own best interests.

Someone wise once said that evil is the absence of love.

Heroes HAVE the capacity to love, villans DON'T.

If a hero DOESN'T have the capacity to love, what differentiates him from the villan?

NOTHING.

And the difference has to be maintained.

Otherwise, the characters don't matter, their deeds don't matter, and there's no point to the whole exercise.

Just two thugs vying for power, dominance, women, money, WHATEVER.

I recommend reading The Hero With A Thousand Faces-it would shed some light on the matter for some of y'all.

Although I rather hope that anyone engaging in this kind of discussion would have read it already.
