08/18/1999: Fantasy movies.

With the technology and special effects they are capable of today, it'd be a lot easier to make a 'sword and sorcery' or fantasy movie that was closer to the original ideas of the author or creator of the stories with the use of computer generated imagery etc. There could be more than twenty soldiers in the battle at the end, the the dragon could look vaguely convincing and the wizard wouldn't have to be inept. Of course a good storyline and script, not to mention some decent acting would also be a welcome addition to this genre of movie. No really good movies of this genre spring to mind and I would quite like to see one made, though not necessarily based on a book or books as adaptations never really work very well. Even when they are good, the book still seems better. Thats aid I would like to see a movie based on the novel Legend by David Gemmell (nothing to do with the fantasy movie by the same name) as it has a story that well might be adapted to the big screen. As for the Robert Jordan books given their length I think theyed be hard pressed to even fit the first in the Wheel of Time series into a movie. I await the Lord of the Rings movies with great interest despite my doubts.
