08/18/1999: Top 10 rock musicians of the second half of the 20th century (acc. to me)

Groucho, that was excellent; unfortunately, my knowledge of classical music is severely limited (there are a good number of pieces I like, but I don't know who did what). Anyways, here's a list that's similarly "classical" but a bit more modern:

1. The Beatles - incredibly prolific band which went from rock covers to "silly love songs" to psychedelia etc.

2. Bob Dylan - protest singer, love song writer, poet, and composer of some of the greatest (and oddest) songs ever written.

3. Chuck Berry - someone had to start the so-called "rock" revolution.

4. Jimi Hendrix - maybe not the best songwriter, but one f*** of a guitar player.

5. The Doors - good ol' Jim and the rest of the boys.

6. Led Zeppelin - yeah, they "borrowed" liberally from others, but still came up with a lot of good music.

7. The Rolling Stones - incredibly aged now, but back in the day were incredibly interesting.

8. Pink Floyd - psychodelic, trippy, wierd, and still interesting.

9. Grateful Dead - easily dismissable as "hippy crap" by many, but still really good musicians.

10. Black Sabbath (original lineup) - hard, loud, slow, meanicing, and all sorts of other good things.

Don't get me wrong; I don't live in the past or anything like that. I just picked older bands due to their prolificness and longitivity. I like a lot of 80s and 90s music, but there are not that many bands from those eras which have the kind of consistancy of the above groups in their heydays (I realize that the ones still around are well past their heydays, but that's irrelevant for current purposes).
