How much have bands since Bonham died stole from Led Zeppelin? Now, Page and especially Plant like to say that they stole a bunch of stuff from early bluesmen, but what the hell did the Rolling Stones (original lineup) do? I guess because a few of them (including Brian Jones) claimed to be blues scholars it wasn't called stealing. Anyway, Zeppelin's "Bring It on Home," "You Shook Me," "Dazed and Confused," "Lemon Song," and "Whole Lotta Love," bear very little resemblance to the songs upon which they were partly based. The direct similarity is in the lyrics, because the music doesn't sound at all like Willie Dixon or Robert Johnson, et al. For "Boogie With Stu" (Ian Stuart, who was kicked out of the Stones because he looked too conservative), Zeppelin specifically attributed part of the song to Richie Valens' mother in the hopes of getting her some money.
Also, my vote for the originator of Rock n Roll is Little Richard, because he was rocking years before Chuck Berry (although I greatly prefer Chuck Berry's music).
The Jackal's (biased) top five list:
1. The Beatles
2. Led Zeppelin
3. Jimmy Hendrix
4. The Rolling Stones (not a big fan, but history and all)
5. The Doors (I personally liked Manzerik's music more than Morrison's poetry)
Then The Who, Dylan, CCR, Beach Boys, etc., in whichever order you want.
